Thursday, 25th October 2012 - unitl 25th November 2012

Derek Culley at The Attic 25th October 2012

Tamh Lacht - The Wall

The Private View is on Thursday 25th October 2012 from 6.00 - 8.00pm.
Exhibition will be opened by Mary Cloake CEO The Bluecoat - Liverpool. Wine & Canapés.
Venue: The Attic
33-45 Parr Street,
Parr Street Studios,
Liverpool L1 4JN
Tel: 0151 708 6345

Exhibition comprises of two bodies of work.Works completed during my residency at The Cill Rialaig Project Co Kerry - Ireland (2008) which is a set of 10 works on paper (16" x 20") plus 6 works from the series ‘Tamh Lacht – The Wall’ (2011).

This body of work is centred around where I went to school as a child and its place in history which is largely not known or appreciated by its current population.
Tallaght (Tamh - Lacht in Irish) was a village when I was a child. It’s now a large new town with a tram system linking it to Dublin City Centre; Ireland. It was only when I researched Tallaght’s history that I appreciated its significance in Ireland's history, its monastery and place in the Celtic Church plus its importance as a centre for European learning is largely forgotten. Perhaps my exhibition would be a catalyst for artists and residents in their place - to research their Town / City and its History and realise its History! As I did when researching and painting "Tamh-Lacht The Wall". Tallaght's history informed this body of work.

The series comprises a set of 14 canvas's (each 48"high x 30"wide) from which six works are on show.
